Welcome
Who are we?
Speech Therapy Associates can link you to a variety of speech and language therapists who augment each other's skills and share the same values about delivering effective healthcare.
We want to ensure that you are able to access a speech and language therapist with the appropriate skills for your speech and language difficulty. We believe in providing care that is based on best practice with an honest and open approach. Therapy goals will be discussed and agreed with you in advance so you know exactly what you are paying for and the results you might expect.
All the speech and Language therapists are registered with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists, Health Professions Council and the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice.
Each therapist holds their own professional indemnity insurance. They will have their work regularly checked to ensure high clinical standards of care and be able to demonstrate their commitment to continuing professional development through regular clinical updating.
What can we do for you?
For children:
We can offer services for children who are slow to start talking, who may have difficulty understanding certain types of spoken instructions, who have difficulties with certain speech sounds or may be finding school generally overwhelming and are failing to show their full potential.
We provide services for children with who have developed hoarse, sore voices due to causes such as vocal strain, nodules etc by specialist paediatric voice therapists.
For adults:
We can offer therapy for people with voice difficulties such as nodules, polyps. Please note that we will require an examination by a Consultant Ear Nose and Throat surgeon before seeing you. We can offer therapy for people who have language problems following a stroke.
We also can also provide therapy for people who have problems with their speech sounds often associated with recovering from a stroke, MND, MS, or Parkinson's disease.
How do we work?
Currently the network of therapists is in the Surrey/Sussex/Hampshire Area. The map shows where we operate.
Step 1
First of all It is often useful to talk to you on the phone to get a clear idea of the help that you might need. You will be under no obligation to book an appointment. Parents in particular may not know whether that niggling worry they have about their child is something they should start making a fuss about. There is no charge for this service as very often there is nothing to worry about.
Option 1 Screening assessment.
This is generally an informal assessment carried out in your own home. The screen will help you to gauge the amount of help you might require and the type of speech and language therapist you will need. After the screening assessment you can have a chat with the therapist who will send you a summary of your conversation for your information and future reference.
Option 2 Formal Assessment.
This is generally required when you know the type of difficulty that you have or have been referred by your GP, health visitor or Hospital consultant. The assessment will be thorough and will include the taking of a full case history.
After the assessment you will have a chance to chat to the speech and language therapist who will send you a detailed report for your information and future reference.
Will I get better?
This depends on a number of factors. Once we have got to know something about you and your condition we can be much clearer about what we can do and what you can expect. That is where the assessment is so important. Other factors such as general health and commitment to the therapy plan will make a difference as well.
